ROB & JAMI'S WEDDING

Several days ago, I mentioned that I would be working on tags for my cousin Jami's wedding. The tags will be attached to gift bags filled with goodies given to out-of-town guests when they check into the hotels. I feel rather silly about any hype I gave to these tags in my previous post because to the eye of any fellow stamper familiar with Stampin' Up! stamp designs, this is a simple simple tag design. BUT, to the eye of someone not familiar with SU stamp designs (like the bride & the majority of the wedding guests!), it looks like a very detailed, intricate design. Jami freaked when she saw these tags and even showed them to her cake decorator wanting her to duplicate the design on the wedding cake! That's what I've always loved about this stamp set, Baroque Motifs! ... simple to use with elegant, fascinating results! I needed simple because of time limitations, and I needed to make 50+ of them.

Jami & Rob's tags were stamped in Close to Cocoa and Certainly Celery. The word "welcome" is from the stamp set, Warm Words, and Diamond Stickles (non-SU) were used in the flower/starburst centers.

My apologies for the not-so-great photos ... I'm at my new job during the best lighting for photographing my artwork ... I'm going to have to work with that.

BAROQUE MOTIFS GRID TECHNIQUE

This card uses this week's Color Challenge #177 on SCS of Groovy Guava, Whisper White, and Sahara Sand, along with the Grid Technique for a faux tile look. I have been wanting to try this technique for so long, and I think Baroque Motifs is the perfect stamp set for it. The results remind me of tiled kitchen backsplash. HERE is a wonderful Grid Technique Tutorial by Beate Johns.

Besides the obvious ...
* I scored the Whisper White CS every 1/2" before stamping the Baroque Motifs images so the faux grout lines stay white.
* The flower image on the Sahara Sand background piece was stamped in Versamark.
* There are two Groovy Guava small ovals staggered behind the Whisper White oval with the sentiment stamped in Groovy Guava.
* Overall card size is 5 1/4" x 5 1/4".RECIPE

RAKS FROM LORRI AND KAREN

Yesterday was one exciting mail day! I received TWO gorgeous RAK's!

The first card I'm showing you is from my dear friend and SU Sideline, Lorri Heiling ... Confessions of a Stamping Addict. This is the card Lorri created on Sunday for the Featured Stamper Challenge (FS48) on SCS, caseing this card of mine. I was so surprised when I saw this gorgeous card posted on SCS because I've been trying to get Lorri to play along with the SCS challenges FOREVER! I was even more surprised when I received the actual card in the mail yesterday! Lorri is just one of the most thoughtful people I've ever had the privilege of knowing ... she wrote the nicest things inside the card, along with a friendship poem. This next adorable card is from my friend, Karen Laub, nikesmom on SCS. Karen and I are band booster moms together, she attends my classes, and has a true passion for the art of stamping! I had given Karen the Merry & Bright stamp set from the Holiday Mini Catalog, along with the Real Red 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon for her birthday/Christmas gift, and she (in her "creative Karen way") used both of them in a thank you card to me! How cool is that?! Karen's card is so cute! ... love that snowman image with the Dashing DP! I'm so impressed that she mailed thank you cards out (unlike my lame self!).

ENVELOPE SOLUTION FOR LAW FIRM INVITES

The invitations for the law firm (PREVIOUS POST) are completed and delivered !!! WOOHOO !!!

A HUGE thanks to all of you who left comments and e-mails to solve my envelope dilemma!!!! (The dilemma was to find an attractive, mailable solution for these 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" Triangle Tri-Fold Invitations). I knew I could count on my creative readers to help me out with this one ... all the ideas were great! Ultimately, MAGGI's suggestion is the one that suited my needs for this invitation the best. Thanks, Maggi!!!!This is what I did: I took 1" x 4 1/4" Basic Black CS strips, rounded one corner, added Sticky Strip to each side, and adhered inside at each end of the rectangular 5 3/4" x 4 3/8" envelope. The strips of CS act as spacers so the invitation doesn't float around the envelope. I found this to be the fastest and most attractive solution.

LAW FIRM 10TH ANNIVERSARY INVITATIONS

A few weeks ago, I was hired by a local law firm to create invitations for their 10th Anniversary Celebration Dinner. The event will be semi-formal at a pricey restaurant located at a high-end Scottsdale resort. This was probably one of the most challenging projects I've ever tackled. Trying to make formal, elegant invitations without making them look like wedding invites was difficult! I gave them several samples to choose from, but ultimately, they chose this first sample; a triangle tri-fold card inspired by stampinbrenda on SCS. See stampinbrenda's original HERE.

I'm in the midst of putting the finishing touches on these invites so I can deliver them within the next couple of days. I have a dilemma that I was hoping my crafty, creative readers could help me with ... the envelopes for these 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" tri-fold cards. These will be mailed, and the United States Postal Services' minimum size requirements for mailing a square envelope is 5" x 5", and minimum size requirements for mailing a rectangular envelope is 3 1/2" x 5". I could put these invites in a larger envelope, but I'm thinking that is going to look unprofessional. Any ideas for an attractive, professional-looking envelope/mailing option? If you have any ideas, PLEASE leave a comment!

weSTAMP SWAP

Last month, my SU Sideline and dear friend, Lorri Heiling, and I joined our creative teams for monthly Stampin' Up! Demonstrator meetings. We fondly named our group weSTAMP in conjunction with my blog name. Leah Sinatra won the door prize at last month's meeting, therefore being crowned the provider of this month's door prize. Leah altered these super cute chipboard letters with Fall Flowers DP that spell the word "STAMP".

Funny story .... the winner of this chipboard letter collection was Pam Wood ... the first three letters that Pam pulled out of the gift bag were "P", "A", and "M". We all had such a puzzled look on our faces wondering how Leah knew Pam would be the winner of the door prize to have spelled her name!!!!
This is the Make 'n Take that Lorri Heiling provided our group last night. This is a super cool GUY card using Outlaw DP and Wanted stamp set. This card was GREAT for showing off what the Crop-A-Dile can do by setting the eyelets in the center of the stars (which were punched out using the star punch) and dry embossing the row of circles underneath the main image on the Sage Shadow CS. SCS COLOR CHALLENGE 137 and BEATE'S WEEKEND SKETCH CHALLENGE 24

I did the dumbest thing this morning! ... I sat down to do today's SCS Color Challenge (CC137) ... struggled and struggled ... about an hour later, I realized that one of the colors I was working with was wrong! I was trying to use Basic Black instead of Basic Gray! Since that first card wasn't workin' out for me anyway, it got scratched! Unfortunately, I needed a sympathy card so I used the CORRECT color challenge, along with Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge (WSC24).

So, today's SCS Color Challenge uses the colors of Purely Pomegranate, Soft Sky, and Basic Gray (NOT Basic Black!)....and here is Beate's Sketch:

RAK FROM CAROL FRERICHS

Do you ever come across a card and think, "Gol, I wish I would have designed that!" because it so so incredibly perfect, unique and original?! That's exactly what I was thinking when I first saw Carol Frerich's CC134 - Embossed Baroque Card! I just sat there at stared at it in complete awe for the longest time! Well, lucky me! .... I received it in my mailbox yesterday!

Check out all the details about this card on Carol's blog, Stamp Like Crazy (her photo of the card is much better than mine too!). It's difficult to tell in the photos, but the main 3-panel image was covered in Versamark (after stamping the Baroque Motifs images), then heat embossed with clear embossing powder and repeated a couple of more times. IRL, it almost looks like it's laminated ... way cool! The Define Your Life stamp set is high on my wish list too!

Carol is incredibly talented, and her blog is FANTASTIC! She is a super nice person too! We've had fun chatting via e-mail ... she is familiar with the midwest farming community that I grew up in! THANK YOU, CAROL !!!!

APPLE CIDER DP CRISS CROSS CARD CASE

I'll admit it ... I'm a SCS lurker, and have oodles and oodles of fabulous cards saved in my favorites. Quite often, I come across a fabulous design that I feel compelled to CASE (Copy And Steal Everything). This Criss Cross Card was one of them by ncmorgan. See her original card HERE. Click HERE for a tutorial for Criss Cross Cards.

The only things I changed from ncmorgan's original design: a) omitting the hemp twine going around the card band, b) omitting the three eyelets on the band, and c) I think she used Pewter Brads and Eyelets ... I used Antique Brass.

I just love the way ncmorgan designed the layered medallion! The center of the medallion is Apple Cider DP punched with the 1" circle punch with an Antique Brass Brad in the center. The next layer is Really Rust CS pierced using the Priceless Classy Brass Template and punched with the 1 1/4" Circle Punch, then a 1 3/8" Circle Punch layer of Wild Wasabi CS, and then Really Rust punched with the Scallop Circle Punch and pierced on the scallops.
I also loved ncmorgan's unique tab on the insert portion of the Criss Cross Card. The small starburst from Baroque Motifs is stamped in Wild Wasabi on Wild Wasabi CS and punched out with 3/4" Circle Punch. An Antique Brass Eyelet is in the center of the starburst with the hemp twine threading through and around the Round Tab Punch and tied.RECIPE

SCS COLOR CHALLENGE CC132 and SKETCH CHALLENGE SC142

This week, I combined two SCS challenges, Color Challenge 132 and Sketch Challenge 142. The color challenge was to use the colors of CHOCOLATE CHIP, REALLY RUST, and RIVER ROCK. I used the Horizontal Slit Punch to punch a hole for the ribbon to thread through. My apologies for the distorted photo ... I just have a heck of a time getting good photos ... especially when River Rock is involved! Love the color, dislike photographing it!

To update you on my previous post regarding Dottie K .... I found her! She responded to the post quickly, and we've been conversing via e-mail. She has a great sense of humor, and is a scrapbooker and a card maker! I'm trying to talk her into sharing her work with us through SCS gallery or blog! Let's hope she starts soon!

LAURIE SCHMIDLIN CASE

This card is a COMPLETE CASE of Laurie Schmidlin's card, (Just Give Me Stamps). I needed a fast "knock your socks off card" and KNEW I could find it on Laurie's blog! Last week, my brother-in-law, Rick asked me to make an anniversary card for him to give to his wife, Norene. I was honored that Rick asked me to do that, and knew it HAD to be special, as they celebrated 40 years of marriage last weekend! Norene is a stamper too, and I wanted to use a stamp set and supplies that I knew she owned. This card is so elegant, yet very easy to duplicate! The only change I made from Laurie's card was the "happy anniversary" sentiment. The sentiment and the medallion are both emossed with Black Embossing Powder.

I SHOULD BUY A LOTTERY TICKET!

Yep, I should buy a lottery ticket because I've been on a winning streak! I've won TWO blog candies within a week of each other!!! WOOHOO! I'm sharing the one I received in the mail yesterday from Gena Contor of My Stampin' Garden, aka Morning Glory68 on SCS. Visit her blog, visit her SCS gallery, leave nice comments for her because she is one generous, kind lady! ... and one talented stamper to boot! Gena is the very first stamper I met when I started my blog.

Here's a photo of all the goodies that came in my mail yesterday ... a gorgeous handmade card from Gena, not one but TWO clear paint cans (can't WAIT to alter them!), two stamped can toppers, six SU inspiration sheets, two yards of beautiful ribbon, chipboard flowers, tags, and prima flowers! WOWZERS! I'm in heaven!
Here is Gena's beautiful card. The silver Baroque Motif swirl and center medallion are embossed, and there is a rhinestone brad in the center. I love it!

Yesterday I had a morning and evening stamp class for my local stampin' friends ... five ladies in the morning class, and 15 in the evening! BAROQUE MOTIFS SYMPATHY CARD This card was cased from jrek's card on SCS HERE. In the photo, it looks quite green, but it is River Rock and Chocolate Chip! Jrek embossed the medallion on her card. On mine, I just stamped the larger medallion in Chocolate Chip onto River Rock cardstock, and stamped the smaller star-like medallion in River Rock on River Rock CS - no embossing. The large swirl design is stamped in Chocolate Chip then shadowed in River Rock.

GARDEN WHIMSY CARD This card is a case of one by tayloredexpressions on SCS HERE and Heather Summers of Stamp With Heather HERE. Both created a card similar to the card on the right. I didn't have enough Groovy Guava CS for 20 cards so changed up the colors to create the one on the left with Purely Pomegranate, Old Olive & Blue Bayou. Those attending class could choose to create the color scheme of their preference. The butterfly is stamped in Blue Bayou on the Whisper White Cardstock, then stamped again on another piece of WW CS, cut out, folded in the center, and adhered with a glue dot for a 3-D look.

At last night's Retirement Open House, my guests had the opportunity to create one Make 'n Take card. They could choose the color scheme they liked best out of the three. This was such a simple card with the beautiful new stamp set, BAROQUE MOTIFS, and highlighting some of the new In Colors and Rhinestone Brads. The cards measure 5 1/4 x 5 1/4, and fit in Stampin' Up!'s Medium Square Envelopes. The medallion is simply cut out and adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals or Foam Tape.

It became quite fun to see which one each guest chose to create! Everyone seemed to like a different one!

This first card uses Soft Sky (new IN COLOR) and Sahara Sand with a Medium Light Blue ICE Circle Rhinestone Brad.

This second card uses the new IN COLORS of River Rock and Groovy Guava with a Medium Green ICE Circle Rhinestone Brad.

And finally, their third choice uses the new IN COLOR of Soft Sky and Real Red with a Medium Red Circle FIRE Rhinestone Brad.
