GOODBYE MARCHING BAND SEASON

Another Marching Band Season has flown by! It is bittersweet for our family, as we so enjoy the fellowship with the band kids and parents, and enjoy seeing Allie in her "element"! On the other hand, we will be enjoying the slower pace!

Allie's band competed at the State Competition yesterday in Chandler, AZ, and received a rating of SUPERIOR! I'm so dang proud of these kids! This is a picture of Allie (2nd from the left) with her Senior Clarinet friends (Allie's a junior). She is going to miss them so much next year, and she's going to gasp when she sees I shared this photo on my blog! It was so-o-o hot yesterday, and this photo was taken after they performed. They are all hot and sweaty in their wool marching uniforms .... I think it was in the 90's yesterday? I never understood why Marching Bands are so popular in Arizona ... those wool uniforms are hardly ever appropriate for our weather!

After the competition, we joined some of our band friends for vietnamese food at Cyclo in Chandler. WOW! I had never tried vietnamese food, and it was out-of-this-world delicious! If you're ever in Chandler, AZ, you've GOT to try it! Just be prepared for the owner's unusual humor! You can find Cyclo's website HERE.

You should be a proud mother. Way to go girls and the band. That is a wonderful photo. 90 degrees it's about 65 today - alot warm than we've had. Been wearing the winter coats and scrafs. Have a great weekend. :)

Oh, she is just too precious! Those smiles...those uniforms...that's the sweet stuff that memories are made of!!! I'm not surprised to see such a happy girl, she's got you for a mom, what more could a girl ask for = )! And speaking of sweet stuff, thanks for sharing the recipe for pumpkin bars...I'm going to try them out this week. Yummers!

I had to comment on the similarities of our days yesterday. I, too, have an 11th grader who was in a state championship meet. He was in the State Cross Country championship. While your daughter was boiling, here in Maryland my son was freezing....40 degrees, windy and ran in only a little nylon sleeveless shirt and shorts! Although our school only came in 9th out of 16 schools, my son was first on his team...ran 3 miles in 17:44! Congratulations on yur "superior" rating and your fantastic blog!

Congrats to your daughter! It must be so exciting for her to go to state competition! This is a great picture...one for a SB! Wool does not make sense, especially in AZ! ;)

I have always been amazed with High School Marching Bands in the U.S. They are of such high caliber and are always the highlight of parades I have seen them in. Congrats to your daughter and her band!

All your posts about your daughter's marching band activities have brought back some great memories of my high school marching band days. I played the Bass Clarinet, but haven't touched one since those days. It really was a great experience and lots of fun times (loved the bus trips to away games), but we weren't a very good band. Let's just say competitions could be painful, character-building experiences. LOL! Linda Bullard
