WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH SPANDEX?

I think I've finally solved a little problem I've been having. You see, in the past 13 years of SAHM status, I've pretty much lived in blue jeans. When I started work several weeks ago, I had to conform to the school's dress code which is "no jeans, except on Fridays". I don't get too dressed up because my job is pretty physical and messy, so for the most part I stick with basic khaki capris. I had to purchase a few pairs to get me through the work week and dislike each and every pair I own .... by mid morning they are practically falling off my body! Every time I stand up, I need to pull them up around my waist and readjust! I am so uncomfortable in these pants, as I feel like I need something to hold in my waist! I've even tried wearing a belt ... I am so not a belt person!

I'm finally catching on to why I'm having this problem ... SPANDEX!!!!! Do you know how hard it is to find pants WITHOUT Spandex these days? After much searching for capris without Spandex, I resorted to purchasing pants WITH Spandex a size smaller than I would normally purchase. Tonight after work, I did just that, then wore them around the house to get them stretched out so I could wear them to work. Geez ... what an ordeal!

Thanks for letting me bore you with my Spandex saga! Onto some other wonderful bloggers who won't bore you with their Spandex issues ....

I know exactly what you mean, Nancy! I just bought 2 new pairs of pants that looked great in the dressing room. I wore the first pair to work and within hours I was hitching them up! Now I'm dieting and losing weight but I know I didn't lose THAT much between Saturday and Monday! The second pair seemed to last a bit longer but not much! It's the spandex...I didn't even realize it until I read your post!
Guess I'll be reading more than just food labels when I shop now!

Oh, my goodness Nancy I do understand....Have you tried Spanx? Oh, my you want a real good laugh....Oprah wears these daily...so I thought great these will work ....well they are spandex underware that go from under your bra to mid thigh reminds me of my Mothers girdles except no bones in them....so you roll yourself into these babies and get dressed...I did think this was going to be a bit tough in the ladies room....no problem there is a flap in the appropriate place...all is well in the world or so I thought until I got out of my car and was walking to the mall and discoved that my shirt was half way up my back and I didn't know it because I couldn't feel the breeze...Whatever bring on my Jeans till my last day here on earth...no wait please bury me in them so I know all important parts are covered! LOL This was a great wake up post with my coffee...wishing you a great day!

Ditto, Nancy! It's hard finding jeans without them, too! I remember going through this last fall. Try some of the catalogs like LL Bean and Land's End - they might have some.

ROFL! Nancy, I find that even some jeans have the spandex in them and I'm hiking them up constantly...pain in the butt eh?! I feel your pain girl...BUT I am envious....you can wear capris...haha! I'm about to pull out all my winter stuff, including boots!
Hope all is well my friend...big hugs to you!

Gosh, I actually love pants with spandex in them. I find them so much more comfortable than stiff pants that don't give any. But, if they are falling off of you I think you made the right choice in buying a smaller sixe. :)

You are sooo funny, I have visions in my head of you running around your house stretching out your new pants - LOL! *STAMPIN HUGS* Alex

Too funny, Nancy!! Myself...I'm getting tired of not being able to find something I like that isn't a low-rider. Booo! ;)

Too funny! I thought I was the only one trying to find jeans without spandex. I've been wearing Levi 550straight leg jeans (no spandex) for years and have finally decided to go for bootcut and I can't find any without spandex! I guess I will stick with my 550s.

You know what? I'm right there with you on this issue! HATE spandex, too. They've sneakily been adding it to jeans, too, in the last few years. I absolutely hate the feel of jeans with spandex in them. They stretch out and give you a very weird rear view, as well as sag around the knees... Urgh.

Even if you do wear a belt, the belt keeps rising above the pants when you bend down because the waistband is so stretchy.

Yeah. I hear ya. I hate it, too.

This is tooooo funny! I'm right there with you. It is really difficult to find jeans without the spandex anymore and it is horrible after you have been wearing them for awhile and they start falling off of you.

I hear ya' Nancy! I'm a SAHM and total jeans wearer but I have some jeans and capris that are like this and they drive me crazy! Good luck with your search for non-jeans and non-spandex pants!

I totally know what you mean about the spandex. My sister and I just recently had a conversation about this. They are so tight after washing them but a couple hours after wearing them, they are falling down!

I totally understand! I think a man created this idea of spandex in pants. Mine feel the same way. I’m always pulling then up and my butt has extra fabric hanging because the fabric stretches out till the next wash. Crazy!! Love your cards!! Michelle :)

Congrats...you wear a size smaller! :0) hahaha! You have me laughing with this story. I sure hope you are loving this new job. I am sure they are lovin you!

I love it!! I could not agree more...I HATE them! By noon they are huge and you can't find regular pants anywhere anymore! I soooo feel your frustration Ü

Nancy you are so funny! When I think spandex, well I just don't want to think of me and spandex in the same sentence LOL! I hope your strategy works...and in today's world, what's up with not being able to wear jeans? Most businesses that were dressy are now casual, so businesses that were casual should allow jeans. Just my little vent! Have a great rest of the week!

Spandex should be illegal. Actually, maybe Obama or McCain could add that to their campaign promises - it might impact my decision... ;-)

I have the same complaint. I hate Spandex in pants, especially jeans!!! They fit fine for a while, then they are falling off my rear. I even bought them a size smaller...I still have the problem.

Your too funny! I would be lost if I went back to work in a professional setting, I'm like you, most days I wear jeans and a tee shirt. Years ago I worked in an office and wore heels and panty hose every day for 10 years! There are times that I miss feeling polished, but I wouldn't trade being home with my little guy!

Nancy...welcome to the world of working "out of the home"! Sucks hey! You do get use to them, really! But yes, always buy a size smaller and as they stretch out ALOT! And I am with Dawn, we are already wearing fall clothes and just waiting for the snow to fall!!! Crappy hey! Hope all is well! Ciao Bella!
