Well, the most humorous in my most recent history was just a couple of nights ago. Over on the 2Peas site a challenge was presented to quickly throw together a 'costume' and you had to post a picture in the gallery. So, I snuck into my daughter's bedroom with a flashlight, and quickly borrowed her witch hat and witch mask that she had just decorated. We were also supposed to wear the pieces for costumes that we created in another challenge, so I was wearing that as well. It was quite funny. Here is the link to the gallery pic: http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=1246339

I was Cyndi Lauper one year when I was a kid...a little dated idea. As was the year my BF and I went as Clinton and Monika Lewinsky. My brothers went as hobos one year...I think I am going to tell that story on my blog...come check it out later!

I saw one either last year or the year before where a lady used a box and some cardboard to make her son or daughter a rubber stamp. She said she used a box for the wood block, then painted another piece of cardboard red and drew an image on it. Then drew the same image on the box (like the sticker). I LOVED this idea! Now to convince either DD or DS that they WANT to be a rubber stamp.....

Pick Me! Pick Me!!! HE HE HE!!!!I think one of the best costumes was friend , she was a bag of money and her husband was the bank robber. Her costume was a cream burlap sak with money coming out of the arms and neck area with a big $ sign on the front and her husband was by her side the entire night. I played a black kitty cat which I made and no one knew who I was - I wouldn't talk just purrrr when I was younger and made the face to cover mine entirely. I had a blast and was in shape back then. The good old days!!!! I won the contest that year - no one couldn't guess who I was. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. ****Congrats on hits. Way to go!!!! Ooohhh Aaaahhhh! Great Candy. :)

My friend's daughter went as a laundry basket last year. Here are the details:Buy the cheapest, lightest laundry basket you can find. Cut a circle out of the bottom, just big enough for your body to fit through. Cut 2 piece of clothes line to tie onto the laundry basket to act as suspenders, make them just long enough so the top of the basket hits just about your waist. Hang 'dirty' clothes on the basket and yourself, using clothespins and/or safety pins to hold them in place.

I have two halloween costumes for you...one WONT work for kids! My DH's fave idea is to have the two of us wear pig noses, and go to the party with a blanket wrapped around us...TWO PIGS IN A BLANKET!! The other my friends did a few years ago. He went as a chef, with the chefs hat and all, and she had a box made into an oven, she wore this and inside there was a little hamburger bun...there's a bun in the oven! What a cute way to annouce that you're expecting!

I'm not a very good one when it come to halloween the best costume was one year in high school - 6 of us went as crayons. I was a red crayon with all red clothes, a red painted face and a red hat that pointed at the top - we even made a crayon box for the 6 of us to walk around in. Congrats on coming so far in your blogging.

Wow, thanks for the chance to win such AWESOME blog candy, and congrats on 42,000 hits!

My favorite costume ever was the strawberries that my friend and I dressed up as. :) We got some red longjohns and red toques (it's cold here in Edmonton around Halloween, so it was perfect) and spent a long time cutting out "seeds" and "leaves" from felt to attach to the longjohns. We plumped ourselves up by stuffing blankets and pillows into the longjohns. :) It was pretty hard trick-or-treating like that, though, and we soon became deflated strawberries.

We had a costume party last year and one couple came as the king & queen of hearts - they created huge cards to wear as the front & back, and naturally paper crowns.
Congrats on the hits!

One year I decided to make my kids costumes. The costumes I chose to make were Sylvesta the cat for my son and Tweety bird for my daughter. They came out so darn good that they won a contest for the ideas. I never attempted another costume though! Too much frustration in making them!!!

When I was 10, I told my Mom that I wanted to be something really, really different. All the costumes seemed to be the same year-after-year. I finally decided on making my own Rubbix Cube costume (not even sure I've spelled that correctly now) - can you tell what era I grew up in?? Thanks for the opportunity to win!

A few years ago some of my younger co workers wanted to bring in a costume for me (cause some of them dress up & I don't) so I agreed. Guess what it was? One of the girls had a leather vest & short skirt so they thought it would be funny to dress me up as a hooker!!! I was a good sport & did it, & we all had a great time at work that day. They had to take a picture, too. Heehee!!1

I once found a woman mannequin from the waist up, in a trash bin, wig & all. I gave it to my male cousin who was 21 at the time. He put on a dress and put the mannequin in front of his body, and made his own head into a baby with a bonnet and it looked like a woman carrying her ugly baby in a backpack. It was so hilarious that he went bar hopping to every place in town that had a costume contest and he won them all, winning over $2,000 that night:)

My funniest costume I ever wore was a "pickle" I did see an idea for a Punny costume. Be a cereal killer by taking empty cereal boxes and placing plastic spoons through out the box and then attach them to your clothing. Thanks for the chance.

The most clever costume I saw for an adult was at a party I attended last year. A woman was wearing a white t-shirt that had dirt smudges all over it and on her face and arms. All the shirt said was "Shhhhhhh." Of course my curiosity got the best of me and I had to ask her about her costume. she said she was a Dirty Little Secret. I thought that was pretty clever!

I LOVE your blog! My most favorite Halloween costume was my son's when he was 1. He was the Pillsbury Doughboy, which was a hand-me-down costume from my nephew. He was the cutest little doughboy, and he made everyone laugh when he walked up to doors to trick-or-treat.

My favorite costume so far would have to be when my friend dressed up as a McDonalds Milkshake and I was McDonalds French Fries!! lol.. (Yes, they have actual costumes out there like that.. lol)

Hi Nancy!
Congratulations on a great blog...the numbers don't lie!

Thank you for offering a chance to win that terrific prize package :)

My favorite Halloween costume was a little black dress. I dressed up as Wednesday from the Addams Family. I attached white buttons down the front of the dress, pinned on black yarn pigtails, and topped it of with a white beret...it was so fun!

Congrats on 42,000 hits. I'm not overly creative when it comes to Halloween these days. I haven't dressed up in years plus my DS is long past the days of dressing up now that he's 21. The favorite costume of his that I remember was a dracula costume that I paid $10 for, it had the dress vest, pants, black cape lined with red & then of course I did his makeup & added the fangs. He ended up winning $10 for his costume. lol

Congrats on your 42,000 hits. With your creative and talented artwork...I'm not surprised. One year when my youngest daughter was 3 years old we dressed her up like a present. She was so cute. We took a box and cut holes for her head and arms. Wrapped the box and added ribbon to it and had the bow on top of her head. Of course we did try it on until it was time to go treat of treating. Boy little girl had to keep her arms straight out. She couldn't use both hands for her bag. It was so funny. So after each house she would dump her candy in a sack we had so it would get to heavy. Thanks for the question, brought back this memory. Thanks for a chance at your sweet celebration candy.

One year we dressed my SIL up as a tube of toothpaste. Used a sheet and sewed it into a tube shape and then used markers to wring on the sheet, even created a cap for her head, funny think, did not think it through, she could not sit down in it and had to stand all day at work.

Congrats on the hits!! I have a 10 year old GS with Autisum. Sometimes it is hard to get him excited about things like Halloween. He is brilliant in mathe so we suggested that he go as a calculater and he loved the idea. We made it out of felt like a sandwich board with velcro at the sides. For the readout we put the number for pi. Really cute!! Last year he was a lego block and for two years before that he went as Mario (as in Mario Brothers). hth with ideas

WOW Nancy! This is awesome blog candy! I feel like I should be giving you candy instead. You are such a beautiful person. You always are so encouraging when you leave comments on my blog and I know the time it takes to leave a comment! So thank you for always being so sweet!
Halloween costume: My husband is super creative, so he and his friend decided to make a tornado and two mobile homes for their costumes about 5 years ago. I have pictures, but not sure where they are at. They won 200.00 in a costume contest. On the tornando they had glued little tractors, cows, cars, trees, etc. and the mobile homes were made to look like the ones they made years ago. it was so awesome. I remember when they would demonstrate it, the person who was wearing the tornado would spin around in between the two who wore the houses. This is probably a little more elaborate than what you were looking for, but definitely a funny memory for me. Thanks for the opportunity to win! Your the best! Tammy

One Halloween my DH and I went to a party as thermometers. I used white sheets to make the costume, duct tape and black tape to make the degree marks and numbers. We wore red knit caps. On mine it said oral. Guess what his said! That's right - I made him be the rectal thermometer. We won the prize at the party.

One Hallowe'en my mother took two tablecloths, glued on plastic dishes and utensils, some flowers and wrote French food names onto the cloth. She put a hole in the middle to pull them over our heads, and Voila!- my sister and I were French Tablecloths! Nobody got it, but my Mom was definitely original.

YUMMY blog candy....thanks for the offer!!!! OK, funny costumer....one year Emma was a chicken. She was so cute (yet so miserable)! The best part of the homemade costume were the yellow rubber gloves we stuffed and attached to her shoes as feet. My favourite costume though was the year Emma was Little Bo Peep and Mark was her sheep! LOVE HALLOWEEN!!!

Wow Nancy! What awesome blog candy your giving away. Great that you hit 42k and counting! ;) I'm not one bit surprised by that! Anyways, I wanted to share a story of our neighbors costume. (Several years back) We had some new people in the neighborhood that we just met previous to Halloween. Our neighborhood has trick or treat and then a little get together after. (it's dark by then) Anyways, We went to go socialize with a few other neighbors and noticed a person across the way dressed as Zoro all by himself. (mind you, NOBODY else was dressed up) This person waved in our direction...and I did one of those things where you look back to see who's on the receiving end. Well, nobody there...I thought that's strange?! We didn't know any single men, so for him to be out there by himself was strange enough. So a few min went by and Zoro came over to us...still thinking what is this guy doing?! Then he said Hi...and we finally realized that it was the new neighbor. It was hilarious at the time and one of those where you HAD to be there. Apparently, his wife had to work and he got all dressed up by himself to pass out candy. It was just too funny and so unexpected! We are now good friends with them. ;)

My fav costume from childhood (like one of my earliest Halloween memories) was the year I was a Dinner Table. Mom cut a hole in a box for my head so the the box rested on my shoulders. The box was then covered with a tablecloth and little toy dishes were glued down for each place setting. I'm thinking I wore some kind of hat that was supposed to be a bouquet of flowers. It was a totally fun costume!

FABULOUS goodies! When I was five, my dad (who is an inventor) made my halloween costume. I was a 1970's TV set! It was huge, bulky, and heavy. I put it on when I got to school and when it came time for everyone to sit down and watch a video, I realized that I couldn't sit! I cried and cried and never let my dad make my costume again!!
Thanks!

Well, I don't have a story about a funny Halloween costume, but I do remember when my son was 2 years old, and was all dressed up to go trick or treating as a Lion, when a cold front came in, and it dropped to 20below Celsius. As kids, my cousin and I went as siamese twins. Our grandpa was BIG and my cousin and I BOTH fit into his overalls that we borrowed. My two legs fit itno ONE of the pant legs, and my cousins 2 legs fit in the other. We had to take TINY steps!! We won first prize in a contest, and got to be in a parade the next day. We should have cut some slits at the bottom of the overall legs, though, because we had to take such small baby steps (can you picture it?) Then we tipped over and couldn't get up. Two policemen had to come and help us get back up. LOL

Kind of embarassing, but I was supposed to be a 'bunch of grapes' and costume was made with a whole bunch of purple balloons tied to a sweatshirt. It turned out really really cute but the guy that I liked at the time said, "hey that's a great costume...what is it...a bcd? (birth control device)...hahaha very funny...the balloons were piled on until I was about 3 feet wide from shoulder down to a few dangling ones at the bottom of the bunch...so I guess he thought he didn't have a chance at getting lucky...oops he was right! Several years ago I was working as an Operations Manager at a drug store chain, and somehow (I don't remember why!) got a reputation for being somewhat accident prone. We were in the middle of moving into a house we were remodeling during Halloween. So I drug out all my first aid supplies and went to work with my arm in a sling, lots of bandages and makeup looking like I had a black eye and stitches too. The store manager nearly fell over when he saw me, thinking I had fallen off a ladder or something working on our house. The poor customers thought it was for real too! Next best one was the following year going as a witch with a green face and having to deal with an irate customer looking like that!
Your website is great - I love what you do and that you are so eager to share what others do too. Thanks for the inspiration!!

KUDOS on your blog hits. I come to your blog daily for inspiration. Thanks for sharing!! My favorite Halloween costume story is: our first year in this country our parents didn't know what Halloween was. My sister (was 5) and I (was 4) watched out the window seeing kids dressed weird but noticed they were getting treats when they went door to door. My mom had felt bad for us so she quickly took us to her room and started taking piles of clothes out of her closet. She dressed me up in her white cotton nightgown and put a gold belt around me. My hair was long and then she took our TV antenna and added foil all around it and put foil around a bandana with the antenna and placed it on my head (yes it was the 70s)...voila, I was an angel. She dressed my sister with my father's clothes. She used our pillow to put around her waist to fill-in the pants and made her look like she had a big tummy and used the belt to hold the pants and the pillow together. She also stuffed the sleeves of his suit jacket with other clothes to make her look more "muscular", added a hat on her and made a beard with her eyeliner. Then she gave her our laundry sack and she was a hobo. Of course the look was completed by wearing my father's shoes. We walked slowly door to door, and when she tried to catch up we laughed so hard seeing her body struggle with the big clothes. I'll never forget it. We still talk about it to this day. We have a picture and it's hysterical! My kids are small so I do the same and come up with clever original dress-up ideas....I'm sure they'll either kill me later when the grow up for doing it, or enjoy seeing the pictures so much they'll do it to their kids too..lol Thanks for letting me tell you my favorite story.

I looooooove Halloween, especially scary halloween. One year I was dressed all in black with this hooded thing on my head that blacked out my face but I could still see. Then I had on a white cloak with a hood and I tucked my hands into the cloak arms so you couldnt see them. A lot of people commented to my sis what a great mannequin I was. Would come right up to me and try to look into the hood. Then I would move toward them. Scared the heck out of them. Especially the produce lady at the grocery store. She wet her knickers on the porch. I thought it was funny.

As my kids were growing up I always had homemade costumes... rarely bought them as made ones are cheaper and cuter in my opinion. One of my faves was when my DD wore a ton of purple balloons pinned to her purple sweatsuit with silk leaves on her green hat. She was a bunch of grapes and we had fun pooping them when trick or treating was over.
Congrats on our hits, BTW!!!!

At a party I once went to I saw an entire family come as the Jackson 5. That was entertaining. I really have not participated in many Halloweens over the years. Just not a big holiday for our family. The only costumes that I remember having were a cowboy and a punk rocker. :) I did however see a girl in middle school come as a shower once. There was a curtian and shower head and every thing. Sorry I cannot help more.

I often created my sons costumes out of boxes. That way they could wear them over their heavy jackets as it seemed to always be cold here in Minnesota. My favorites were a pack of gum with circles cut out for the face and arms and a dice held up with ropes over the shoulders. Jenny

I took me forever to make but it was a fun and original costume. Blessings - Maureen

We have a good friend of the family who is absolutely obsessed with Hallowe'en and every year she swings by our place to show us her costume for that year. A few years back she came as a mummy. She was completely wrapped in linen and had her face "done up" to look like a dead person and had an alien growing out of her stomach !! It was actually terrifying and my kids wouldn't even come to the door to talk to her even though they knew who it was.

Love ya kiddo

Congrats on 42K Hits! I look forward to checking out your blog. When I was a kid, you did not buy your costumes, not sure you could LOL. My parents were always dressing up to show up at parties...mom suggested we be Indians (as in the Indian and Cowboy movies of course lol), she took 50lb. potato saks, cut the neck and arms out, fringed or zigzagged the bottom hem, put these black wigs on us they had for jokes, along with striped headbands with a feather sewn in the back. Here was my favourite part... she took her small jar of ponds coldcream (her only facial product), and added in scoops of instant coffee...and mixed, voila, we had this applied to our faces to turn our fair skin dark, then some lipstick (her only makeup) in a few stripes on the cheeks for war paint. Add leotards and turtleneck under and we were thrilled! We performed Indian dances for our candy.

What GREAT candy. FUN FUN FUN!! Thanks for the chance to win. Let's see. I would have to say the bukeberry costume I made for my daughter when she was 3 had to be the funniest. Probably because I am not a sewer. So I took this hand me down purple crickle top that was HUGE and cut off the sleeves (one of the sleeves I sewed the one end shut and added a big piece of green felt and that became the hat. The other sleeve became the covering for the neck. I then sewed a drawstring around the bottom and whenn she wore the costume we filled her entire middle with plastic garbage bags so she became round. It was really cute but definitely a hand made by somebody who didnt know what she was doing costume.
Hope your Halloween is nice!
Thanks for the chance to win!

Congrats Nancy! Your blog is awesome! It's easy to see why you have so many hits! : )
One of the costumes I had done was pretty simple - odd, but it worked.
I wore some clothes backwards. I had cut out Cindy Crawford's face & neck, posted it to cardboard, cut it to fit the shape of me. Put it on the back of my head. Used barbie pins to keep my hair out of her face(LOL). Tucked the neck in my turtleneck to hide it. I would turn backwards, even for pictures. When people would look at the pictures - they'd say 'who was Cindy again?' So the disguise worked. Not to mention, my other half was real purdy! hehe.
Thanks for all you do on your blog!

A couple of years ago, my niece was a washing machine complete with the bottle of detergent and dirty clothes. (Family Fun again!) It was very easy to do and very cute.

First off, I am new to your blog I discovered it thru Patty Bennett's blog. You are one awesome stamper !!!

The best (and most fun!) Halloween costume I wore was when I was the purple grapes from Fruit of the Loom. My boyfriend (DH now) and 3 of our friends made up the rest of the group (green grapes, little old lady that used to stretch the underwear on the commercials, apple, and fig leaves). I wore a long sleeved purple leotard, purple tights, and a purple hat with plastic leaves tied to the top. My grapes were balloons, attached with safety pins. I can send you a pic if you are interested LOL.

The funniest costume I saw someone else wear was when my husband wore my old girl scout dress (as a skirt) and my sash and hat. So hysterical I nearly died. haha.

ok well I am not that creative myself so I'm going with something I saw. A group of friends wore primary-colored leotards and tights and pinned balloons of the same color to themselves and went as the Fruit of the Loom characters!

Awesome Blog, awesome projects, awesome pics, awesome, awesome, awesome....anywho...One year I went as the Wicked Witch of the East - you know, the one that got hit by Dorothy's house? I made a house out of a cardboard box which I wore over top of a black dress, striped socks and RUBY SLIPPERS!! (Glitter isn't just for cards!). I thought it was pretty creative but it definitely wasn't PRACTICAL. I was a Rubix's Cube once as well...thing for boxes maybe???
My DH dressed up one year as one of the 101 Dalmations..he was the cutest little puppy!!

Keep up the great work.

Congratulations on all the hits!!Your blog is inspirational. I love dressing my kiddos in matching his/her costumes. But the most creative is when I dressed my son as a ty erin beannie bear. We had green sweats and then I made a green beannie hat, and of course I handmade the ty beannie hat. I will go try to find that picture. I love Halloween. Our dept. is dressing as crayons this year. Last year I was a Gerrti the Gardner

HI!!!

How 'bout a clear garbage bag filled with multicolored ballons as a "jellybean jar"?

My daughter is at the point of wanting the store bought costumes, so this year it is Hanna Montana, which basically is a fancy top & skirt with the blond wig.

I remember when I was probably 5, we didn't have a whole lot of money, and my Dad always came up with creative things for times like Halloween. He decided that it would be funny if they made me a killer playing card. I think I was the Ace of Spades, they painted my face white and used that blood in a tube, and put it around my mouth. Looking back, I think it was pretty funny, but at the time I thought it was pretty cool. LOL!

When I was in my younger days, we were invited to a Halloween Party. I had to really think fast and come up with something. I chose a bedroom cat. I had black tights, a black top with a black nighty on top. I had cats ears glued to a head band and we made a black tail out of an old nylon stocking. I had a black partial mask and no one could tell who I was until I talked. What a hoot.

Hi thanks for sharing Nancy! The coolest costume I've seen this season is in the family fun mag. You know those costume's where the guy looks like he's a knight on the horse w/his top 1/2 the knight and his bottom 1/2 the horse? Well, they had a kid wearing a costume that looked like a big mummy holding a baby w/a bib that says 'I want my mummy'. The kid's head was the head of the baby lol. I know it's hard to explain. Sorry!

Hi Nancy!

My mom sewed an E.T. costume for my niece back when the movie was so popular. It was a full body costume and it was just amazing!

When my son was one, I dressed him up like a dalmation puppy. I took a white sweatshirt and pants and I added black spots cut from felt. I also cut ears out of the felt and used Karo syrup to attach them to the side of his head. My son would bark instead of saying "trick-or-treat"!

WOW!!! You have some fans :) On the costume thing....one of my friends dressed up as a box of popcorn. It was really fun. She painted a cardboard box with red and white stripes like and made it look like a classic box of popcorn - you know the kind. She cut put straps to hold it over her shoulders and the bottom was open for her legs. She took a big plastic sack and attached it on the top inside edge and used that to fill with REAL popcorn!

Hi Nancy

I love your site, you are very creative and inspiring. My favourite halloween costume that I ever wore was the year myself and 2 girlfriends dressed up as the Supremes. We all sewed matching mini dresses and bought wigs that we made into beehive haridos. We also put on fakelashes and the longest fake nails we could find. It was defintely as blast.

I dressed as a GM executive back in the 80's complete with stuffy cigar in my mouth and the swagger to go with it. I wore one of my hubby's suits and put some stuff on my face to make it look like a 5 o'clock shadow. briefcase etc. my dad thought it was the funniest thing-but he was an hourly worker for GM driving a truck for them. I have photos but not on this computer.

My 30 something son who is a principal at a Middle School, dressed up one year with an outfit he put together from the Salvation Army, the 60's era look, long hair wig, high heeled boots, bell bottom jeans, open shirt, gold chains and the hat from the era, don't know what it was called! But what a hoot, the kids loved it!!!
Congrats on the hits. Love your blog!!!

First of all, love your blog!

I had a friend that dressed up as a movie theatre floor. She dressed in black and glued popcorn, candy, spilled sodas and movie tickets to her clothes. I thought it was the most creative costume (and easy to do!)

Not sure about unique ,creative or funny , but last year our TOPS group have a costume contest and I dressed up as a glamorous witch which included 2 inch long fingernails painted green , I won second prize in the contest . Wish I had a pic to show you , I will have to see if I can get the pic my friend has and post it on my blog sometime before Halloween.

Funny Halloween Costume...ummm, I really don't have one...other than kids wearing garbage bags over them & cutting out the head & arms just to get candy!!!!

I'm not much of a Halloween person as I never went trick or treating as a kid. Grew up on a dairy farm way out of town. So when I went to college, we of course had a party in our dorm. My roommate and I(having no money to spend on costumes) wore our clothes backwards. Kind of a dumb idea but lots of people thought it funny.

I saw a picture on the internet that had a woman laying on a gurny (sp?) with her legs up and her husbands head between her legs like a baby coming out. It was kinda "adulty", but very creative I thought. On a much nicer hand, my daughter is going to be a one eyed, one horn, flying purple people eater. The costume was made by her dance tacher. A purple velor long sleeve one piece, with gold short shorts and a purple tube cone had with one eye right in the middle and then she'll wear wings. It's very creative and unique I think. Happy Halloween. I enjoyed your blog.

Let's see....the most unique costume I'd seen (at the time, this was a "few" years ago) was a couple friends of mine and my husband went as an outlet and a plug...at the time it was quite unique and cute.... :)
Thanks for the opportunity to play.

Well, we don't celebrate Halloween, but we're celebrating the Reformation and some of the amazing men who were involved. Our church is having a celebration on the 28th and everyone will dress up in period costume and learn more about Reformation history through historical displays/info and food. My son will be dressing up as Martin Luther, with a flowy white shirt/puffy sleeves and short black knickers w/socks. A simple costume with alot of history behind it!
Thanks for all of your awesome stampin ideas. I love your blog!

Nancy, love your blog and today's my birthday so would love to win the sweets! My idea for a costume would be to use a white sheet and cut eye holes. Spray paint some blue swirls, orange circles and a distorted mountain (see Vincent Van Gogh)around the head and chest area. Place a plastic frame around your neck and you are V. Van Ghost. Have never seen this...but it just came to me and sounded kind of unique.

My best friend once dressed up as a picnic table. She was dressed as a red & white checked square with plastic forks and plates glued to it. Also a line of ants coming to the picnic.

I love Halloween and love to dress up - I usually do something scary because scary is easy. But, one year at work we did a theme of a toy store and I dressed as Mrs. PotatoHead. I made the potato out of burlap, eyes, nose and mouth out of felt - it was big hit! I won the best costume that year. Love your blog - you keep my creative juice flowing.

When my oldest son was a little boy he always chose an animal as a Halloween costume. One year he decided he wanted to be an octopus. No octopus costume was to be had in any store in town nor in the catalogs. So this non sewing mother created an octopus costume out of felt and lots of glue complete with eight tentacles with lots of multicolored spots. I cut the head off and sewed it shut at the bottom, attached a wide piece of elastic to it, and turned it into a headpiece. The rest of the body was draped over his body with suspenders made out of extra wide elastic. When it was all done it practically weighed more than him but he was determined to wear it and he did:)

I love dressing my daughter up cute as I'm not into Halloween evil. Her last years costume was the cutest ever - I bought it on ebay and it was originally a dance recital costume and covered with sequins and sparkle. It was a Cat in the Hat and she looked so adorable:)

Congrats on all of those posts! Great job! I once dressed as a housewife for Halloween. I wore a pair of pajamas, my moms old tattered bathrobe (house coat as she calls it), rolled my hair in foam curlers, wore tattered bedroom slippers, carried a laundry basket containing an iron and a mini ironing board.

Halloween costumes are a favorite for us...the kids have had "themed" costumes forever. One time the baby was a mouse, my son was a mouse trap, and my older daughter was a cat. Then they were candy too...my 6' 7" son was a "Big Hunk", my daughter was a starburst, my younger daughter was a sparkly "kiss", and the youngest was a Snickers bar. They've been the characters to Shrek, Scooby Doo, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Princess and the Pea (the baby was the pea and my oldest daughter was the mattress), Jack and the Beanstalk, Lucy & Desi with Fred and Ethel, The Wizard of Oz, and this year the two youngest are going as Sonny and Cher. The 17 yo decided he's too old.

Hi Nancy!

I'm new to your blog and you really do beautiful work!!

My funniest Halloween costume was one that my Mom threw together in the early 80's. She made me a gypsy using all of her sassy clothes and scarves. She did beautiful and wild make up on me (I was probably 8 or 9 at the time) It may have been the best costume ever!

Thanks for offering up such great candy!

well i hope you get time to read all of these because I have two for ya'.
1. homemade spongebob squarepants. My husband turned my son into a large spongebob by folding over a foamy mattress pad, cutting a neckhole, spray paint yellow. Make brown pants with a pillowcase and 'speedsew' onto sponge. Plastic disposable plate eyes. Plastic (drawn and cut out) nose and teeth. A close match real tie for a tie and a belt. Kid puts head thru and voila...instant spongebob! He literally STOPPED crowds of people!

2. when DD was a baby we fitted green cloth over her snowsuit and turned her into a peapod. we split the front and put stuffed fabric "peas" along her belly. THat was stinkin' cute too!

I love your blog. Even though I've just discovered it.
The Halloween costume that stands out in my mind was one that my sister wore. She was a witch one year, she had absolutely everything you could possibly have on to be a witch. She even had a fake wart on her nose. Her husband's little nephew was over and my sister came running down the stairs(looking very scarey!) He took one look at her and screamed and then hit the floor. He wouldn't believe that it was my sister. It wasn't funny then, but looking back it was hilarious.

What a hoot, reading all these costume stories! My own personal favorite: my brother & sister-in-law went one year as a pair of dice! They painted a couple of large boxes white, then painted black spots on each side, like dice. Cut a hole in the top for your head, & a hole in either side for your arms, & they wore black sweats. Fuzzy dice would've been funny too! lol

Hmmm...costume ideas...I need to read through your comments so that I can get a few ideas myself! We have 2 that still haven't decided! Well..last year my daughter went as an Ipod...she made it herself and it looked exactly like an ipod...just bigger and then she wore a sweatband with the little silver apple on it! :)

Not kid appropriate, but the funniest costume I have seen in a long time was my husband dressed as a Playboy bunny. Fishnets and blue eyeshadow were staples in this idea. I have to admit that he has much better legs than I do. LOL

A group of us went to a party together - as a clothesline! We each wore something different and then strung a clothesline to connect us using clothes pins. I was bathroom rugs (very HOT - wouldn't recommend that one!) We had sheets, robe, pj's, etc. It was fun, but we had to disconnect part way through the evening as it got more and more difficult to stay together.

My fave story is when my friend went to a new years eve party in Europe while she was studying there. She did not know most of teh guests. She was told the party was dress up so she and her date made their own cotumes (i do not remember what she dressed-up as.) When they arrived at the party, the guests were dressed up NOT in costumes but in formal attire. Boy, was she embarrassed.
